How did I find "The Find"? Eek! I forget! Facebook? Twitter? One of the ACFW loops? Or directly from Pinterest? One of those. Of course.

My reaction to "The Find"--Not only has Comer discovered Pinterest, but she also figured out that it's more than just a great place to find and store recipes, crafty ideas, fashion tricks, and upcycling how-tos. As I mentioned in my Friday's Find for January 27, Pinterest has numerous uses for writers. Comer elaborates on four.

FRIDAY'S FIND

(In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I may not have actually found "Friday's Find" feature on a Friday.)


The Find:  Tammie Edington Shaw--Letters Across the Page, "Splickety: A New Magazine"; Friday, January 20.


How did I find the find? Shaw, a fellow member of ACFW's 19th Century Writers email loop, announced her interview with Splickety's executive editor, Ben Erlichman.


My reaction to the find? Though the main purpose of the article is to announce the inaugural issue of Splickety, a publication in both print and digital formats that specializes in flash fiction, three other magazines, also imprints of Written World Communications, are listed: Harpstring (Christian fiction); Other Sheep (Christian speculative fiction); and Starsongs (fiction for kids by kids). I'm always thrilled to hear about new potential writing markets.
          The first issue of Splickety features a story by Brandilyn Collins. According to Shaw's article, each issue will feature a well-known author, but Erlichman also welcomes submissions from lesser-known and new writers. I see it as an opportunity to become more familiar with the work of several writers. I also might submit a short, short story of my own occasionally.

The Find:   "The Best of Daily Writing Tips in 2011."

How did I find the find? I subscribe to "Daily Writing Tips" e-letter.

My reaction to the find? Many of the articles chosen were ones that had caught my attention first time through my inbox, some of which I didn't get time to read. They are pertinent to writing both fiction and non-fiction. I also thought it worthwhile to call the site to the attention to other writers who might not be aware of it.

FRIDAY'S FIND

(In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I may not have actually found "Friday's Find" feature on a Friday. In fact, I may have stumbled on it last Saturday morning while listening to "Car Talk" on NPR. Or Tuesday at 2 a.m. while my "Liar's Bench" CD played through headphones. However it came to my attention, I felt it worthy of bringing it to yours, Gentle Reader.)

The Find: "Cecil Murphey's Writer to Writer"

How did I find the find? Diana Flegal, agent with Hartline Literary, made reference to him in her blog post for December 28.

My reaction to the find? I added Murphey's blogsite to my list of favorites on this page. He's in the teens of a 50-part series of posts he calls "Common Problems." I like his common sense approach. For the experienced writer, he gives reminders. The novice writer can learn much from this series. I look forward to reading his new book, Unleash the Writer Within.
