Snow Day...

Dear God,

I just got the call. School is canceled for today because of snow. But Lord, it's the last week before Christmas break. It's also semester's end. We have so much to accompli . . .

Be still and know that I am God.
Yes, Lord, I do know that, but today the seventh- and eighth-graders were to plan their homecoming float, and I'm . . . well, I'm the faculty sponsor for that, and . . .
Have fun in the snow I have sent. It is a gift of the season.
Oh, it is beautiful, Lord, but my students were to recite their Poetry Out Loud poems today, so they'll be ready to . . .
Today, be at peace. Meditate on My Word.
I love to do that, Father. So often it seems I'm too busy to spend the time I want and need in Your Word, but I have one novel and one play I'll be teaching second semester, and I've never read the nov . . .

Creation pauses on days like this to take notice. My child, take notice!
Oh, and I need to talk with my tenth-grade honors class about . . .  Finals are this week!
Take a walk in the snow with your grandchildren, more gifts from Me. Write. Read. Watch a good movie.
Thank You Lord, for this wonderful snow day. This truly is the day that Thee, Lord, has made! Amen.

Dear gentle readers, what are you doing on this fine "snow day"? I'd love it if you'd tell us about it in the "Comments" section.

  1. No snow here in Texas, Sharon, but I remember snow days from when we lived in Michigan and then in Nebraska. They were always a good opportunity to have a break from routine and just play. Once in NE there was a huge snowfall late in October before the leaves were off trees and the whole city of Omaha had major tree damage. Lots of power outages - we were without power for just over a week. It was one of the most wonderful weeks my husband and I had. We camped in the living room with a gas heater. Cooked on the grill. Read by candlelight, and had more fun playing in the snow during the daylight hours. The whole neighborhood turned out to help clean up and play and cook together.

  2. Maryann, I think your week of roughing it sounds absolutely glorious. Imagine what you would have had to pay to rent for a week such a setting! Perhaps you should declare a snow day there in your home in Texas . . . in memory of the sweet memory. (Sounds downright romantic, actually.)

    Write on!

  3. Today I managed to get to work, and I am trying to patiently wait on a review of my last assignment so that I can modify it and upload it, along with the other 6 assignments, for my final grade.

But when I had children at home, snow days meant soup cooked on the wood stove, along with board games, reading, movies and lots of wet mittens and gloves and socks lined up on the hearth under the wood stove. :-)

  4. Brenda,

That all sounds like fun. My two little guys and I have been playing games.

I hope you hear soon so you can get the revisions done and be truly finished. Hopefuly, that can happen before Christmas. :-)

    Sharon
